The Technology Association TechnologyMountains eV, the IHK Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg, the Competence Center for Machining and the University of Furtwangen organized the 3rd Innovation Forum Cutting Technology on June 4, 2019 .
Prof. Konrad Wegener, head of the institute at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, spoke about the necessary coexistence of subractive and additive manufacturing: Because additive manufacturing is an archetype process that only receives functional surfaces and geometric accuracy after finishing. “The additive manufacturers think that the parts come out of the machine automatically. But that's not the case, ”he explained to the specialist audience. The solution is a combined production from the assembly of components with additive manufacturing technology and the grinding: This is how a hybrid component is created.
Advanced machining technologies were the focus of Prof. Bahman Azarhoushang's outlook. He presented his research results on high-speed cutting: According to this, the cutting speed is the most important parameter in cutting in terms of performance, costs, productivity, energy and resource efficiency and tool life. "In the future, even higher cutting speeds will be used in the machining processes," the head of the KSF Institute looked into the future.
The forum was rounded off by an accompanying exhibition in which 20 companies vividly presented their know-how in machining technology and invited the participants to exchange experiences and network. "We are very pleased that the Cutting Technology Innovation Forum has established itself as a platform for establishing contacts with business and development partners from business and science", sum up the three organizers.
